Paid Perspectives

In January 2014, I stood on the roof of a high-rise building in Leipzig in the bitterly cold winter wind and photographed, among many other things, one of those seemingly ubiquitous coin operated binoculars.

Later, when I was editing the pictures of that day, I remembered the picture, but forgot about it at first, I was too busy with all the other pictures of wintry Leipzig.

But soon I was standing next to one of these devices again while planespotting. Snap. The Baltic Sea, the North Sea, Lake Geneva, Zurich or Niagara Falls in Canada… these damn things are everywhere. Sometimes retro, often brightly coloured and absolutely never free. And now I have a small but steadily growing photo series where the sights are blurred behind the actual stars. Have fun!
